Guruvayur Darshan
Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple is one of the most visited pilgrimage centres in Kerala. Guruvayur is known for its early morning rituals, and many devotees prefer the Nirmalyam and early darshan. That means an early start and a driver who knows the roads and the town.

Tips for first-time visitors
- Men usually wear a mundu/dhoti, and women wear a saree, set-mundu or traditional attire. Please confirm the current dress code with the temple.
- Weekends, Ekadashi days and festival seasons are very crowded, so plan extra time.
- Keep mobile phones and bags minimal, as the temple has security checks.

Two types of darshan
Free Darshan
Men wear a dhoti and angavastram (upper cloth), and women wear a saree, chudidhar or half saree. Western wear, shorts, a chudidhar without a dupatta, and sleeveless clothes are not allowed inside the temple premises. Chappals and shoes are not permitted in the queue lines, Nada streets or the temple premises.
Sreekovil Ghee Lamp Darshan
The dress code is the same as Free Darshan: dhoti and angavastram for men, and a saree, chudidhar or half saree for women. Western wear, shorts, a chudidhar without a dupatta, and sleeveless clothes are not allowed, and chappals and shoes stay outside the queue lines, Nada streets and temple premises.
On days such as Uthradam, Thiruvonam, Illam Nira, Thrippunthura, Ashtami Rohini, Ekadashi, Dwadashi, and festival days including Ettam Vilakku, Pallivetta, Aarattu, Upa-Deva Kalasam and Utsava Kalasam, poojas can run late, so Neyvilakku (Ghee Lamp) Darshan timings may change. On monthly purification (Masasuddhi) days, and when Punnyaha rituals are held unexpectedly, the Devaswom decides the timings.
Three types of pooja
Udayasthamana Pooja
“Udayasthamana” means “from sunrise to sunset.” The name refers to the series of poojas performed at the temple through the day, from early morning until night, and the full set of offerings is known as the Udayasthamana Pooja.
It is one of the most sought-after offerings to Lord Guruvayurappan. Because it takes elaborate arrangements, the temple conducts it only on selected days of the year. Bookings are made directly with Guruvayur Devaswom. Once your booking is accepted, the temple will contact you with the available dates so you can choose the one that suits you.
